10 NOV 2013 RBI IS THE BEST AND PERHAPS SBI IS THE WORST

Though i have mentioned in this website about the plus points of working in SBI (SBI has variety. We come into contact with customers everyday which is a pleasure. When i worked in SBI, I have enjoyed this. When we serve a customer efficiently, he/she becomes extremely happy and they reciprocate this. There cannot be anything better in this world than serving other human beings) . However many plus points of SBI has now been negatived by the minus points. HRD department especially in ,SBI, Chennai circle is anti P.O.unless the P.O.knows the HRD manager through someone. TO illustrate, if a P.O.joins SBI and if he is from Coimbatore, he will not be given even a single coimbatore posting during the four branch -four place training during probation period. (With due apologies, i wish to submit that human beings will not do these things. If a bank cannot give even one posting to the place where his parents reside, than what else to comment), However, if that P.O's father or someone knows the HRD manager or someone in LHO,then he will get postings such as Coimbatore, Ooty, Tirupur ,Erode all close to his residence. This is height of nonsense, treating one P.O.like this and another P.O.in a totally different way. Next is the accomodation problem and food problem for ladies. Postings are changed now and then with no reason whatsoever. Some ladies are posted 15 days in one place and 15 days in another place during probation period prompting some people to comment that HRD Chennai is full of sadists. When i joined as a P.O., i was posted to Overseas branch Chennai on Confirmation and I cleared 3 years pending work. Clerks used to volunteer and sit with me. I have prepared many vouchers with my handwriting (though its a clerical job) and cleared everything and I was very happy. Now most of the P.Os are posted to less important branches such as Krishnagiri, where the intelligence of a P.O will be simply wasted. Further those gents who want Chennai are not given Chennai and those who dont want Chennai are given Chennai !!!! Rest in detail tomorrow with examples

12 NOV 2013 TOPIC : SBI

Please go to Google search and type " Times of India Subbarao pulls up bankers" - a newsitem will come. If we read, we will know that in the financial inclusion index ,India's rank was pathetic etc. We all know that one of RBI's important objectives is Financial Inclusion and in RBI website, we can regularly see speeches given by the top management of RBI on financial inclusion. To achieve this objective of RBI, RBI depends on PSU banks (as 70 % of the banking system is dominated by PSUs) and particularly on SBI , as SBI is the biggest bank in the country and the second biggest bank in the country is not even one third of the size of SBI. And ultimately, this financial inclusion agenda of RBI has to be done by the Officers and Clerical staff of SBI + other banks. Lets see how SBI demotivates Clerical staff. As far as Chennai city new recruits are concerned, they are given Chennai postings in clerical cadre. But even here, funny things happen. RBI, rightly,asked all banks to give date of joining of new appointees based on the rankings in the selection process. So, those who join first, will naturally be, top rankers. SBI, at random choose around 10 people from the first and second batch ,including ladies and posted them to Marketing dept -housing loan. ( The correct procedure should have been : SBI should have asked the new joinees as to who are all interested in marketing. Some people always have a liking for marketing. If they are posted to marketing, they will be happy and the bank also gains. But SBI is not interested in doing all these things. Its another matter, if no new joinee is ready to work in marketing. Then , SBI has no choice but again top rankers, if they are posted to marketing, will leave SBI and thats what exactly happened). Those who were posted to marketing were asked to come even on sundays and the AGM refused to give compensatory off. Further, even the ladies were asked to sit in the building premises and reportedly that AGM's behaviour also was quite bad. The top rankers in SBI got selected in IBPS and left SBI. They had such a bad image about SBI that they did not apply even for SBI PO and the students remarked " we dont want to be in SBI ". Now, what has SBI gained in the whole process. Nothing . In fact SBI lost talented people by driving them away. Others, who are not that capable, cannot go to any other organisation but will not have enough motivation to do customer service and our financial inclusion rank will plummet further. All because, SBI does not have transparency in posting. On what basis, some people are posted to marketing department. There will be no answer.. Rest tomorrow.

VACANCIES IN BANKS .28 AUG 2012

There are 17000 officer vacancies in 19 nationalised banks. We dont know how much is the Probationary Officer vacancies .may be one third. Unless IBPS changes the present system ,where the same candidates get selected in all banks, these vacancies are not going to be filled up fully. Apart from these vacancies, thousands of vacancies are going to be created due to retirement in the next 2 years. SBI Vacancies are not included in the list.

HRD

The name of the Bangalore LHO HRD Manager whom I was referring to is Mr.Wilfred Sequeira , a pleasing personality. I had worked with him when we were abroad. He joined the bank as a probationary officer and he helps others in every possible way . In chennai LHO, in contrast, not a single officer in HRD is a P.O. A father of one P.O., who is in a high position in Chennai commented - they are all sadists. For the sake of the country, something needs to be done to change the attitude of HRD officials in Chennai by posting P.Os etc...rest tomorrow

Actual happenings in SBI Chennai Circle TO SHOW HOW HRD/CDO do not care about P.O.training.

There is a branch called Somangalam , a very small branch and only Gold loan accounts are there and P.Os are posted there for General Banking training !!!! When two P.Os were posted to that branch, the branch manager telephoned and told the P.Os not to come there because it is a very small branch, no place and no training possible. But HRD/CDO did not agree to what the BM told and the P.Os went there but could learn nothing about General Banking except Gold loan. This is how P.Os are trained . This is just a sample. More actual happenings follow.

ATLEAST two AGMs in SBI Chennai circle fully support me in my write up against Chennai circle. They cannot say openly. What is amazing is that some managers do not want to pay even the transfer allowance of around Rs 20,000- whenever a P.O.gets transferred. Such is the negative mentality. I gain nothing by attacking anyone. The country needs good bankers and banking industry is very critical to any country. No intelligent student will join SBI Chennai Circle if the attitude is - I dont care about " your " problems. Motivation is a very important subject in management and a motivated employee is an asset to any organisation. Other circles in SBI have understood this and make the employees motivated in every possible way. The exact opposite is happening in SBI Chennai circle and this is the view of many officers including some senior officials.

IBPS RANKS

Though the ranks in various exams such as IAS, IIT JEE, TNPSC are openly published, ranks in bank exams are being kept secretly. Business Line newspaper took up the matter with IBPS several times and only then IBPS started releasing approximate ranks of students. We have to thank Mr.Vagheesh of Business Line. Business Line newspaper regularly publishes news on bank exams.

COMPARISON OF SBI AND OTHER CIRCLES - HRD - DEMOTIVATION

One of my students Vidhya ,who is from Tirunelveli,Tamilnadu, was selected in SBI as P.O. in 2009, was allotted to Bangalore Circle and she joined SBI on 15 May 2009. She was initially in SBI, RBI lay out branch, JP nagar Bangalore and after that, till now in Bannerghatta Road branch Bangalore. Before her joining SBI , I had given her enough motivation and I understand from her superiors that she is a hard worker. She has been in Bangalore throughout ,she is happy and giving her best to SBI. Both the employee and the employer happy. This is the case with most of the POs in Bangalore Circle, Hyderabad Circle etc. (my student Harsha Atluri is in Hyderabad Circle) .In contrast, in SBI Chennai Circle most of the POs are unhappy. Why ?

DEMOTIVATION IS VERY HIGH IN SBI CHENNAI CIRCLE

One of my students Gayathri who is from Chennai, Tamilnadu , was selected in SBI as P.O. in 2011 and was allotted to Bangalore Circle . Initially she was posted to SBI Raichur branch. She took a flat/house on lease and was really happy. I had given her enough motivation and she is a hardworker. After one year, she has now been posted to T.Narasipura, 30 kms from Mysore City. No problem to her ..thats because its not a 3 months posting like what chennai circle does (Chennai circle keeps on rotating POs every 3 months . Who will give a flat/house for 3 months ? They have to suffer in women's hostels with atrocious food. In contrast, in Bangalore circle,POs are happy and have started cooking because they are not shifted every 3 months and they get a flat/house easily for one year or more. Gayatri has taken a flat on lease in Mysore and commuting).

SBI CHENNAI LHO DOES NOT CARE

The problems faced by POs in Chennai circle are unique and many. They are shifted every 3 months unlike other circles. If Bangalore circle wants, they can also post POs to Bangalore, Mysore, Hubli, Richur, etc. They do not do that because they care for the POs. (I had worked with the previous HRD manager in Bangalore LHO when I was abroad and I know what a gentleman he is). Here in Chennai circle,if POs represent their case, a strong reply comes : you had agreed, before joining SBI , to be liable to be posted and transferred anywhere in India and if u do not want,you can resign and go !!!!! This is the worst management practice that should be avoided by any organisation and its time Chennai LHO HRD dept + LHO employees are given training in management by Central Office, Mumbai.

HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT

HRD is a very important division for any organisation. The name itself says : Human Resources.. One of my students got posted to Bank of Baroda Periapalayam branch 1 1/2 hours journey from anna nagar chennai. Periapalayam is a village and the only shopping mall in the village is a tea shop. all are villagers and most of them pledge their jewels to take loan. I told her that she is doing a great service to the country by preventing the villagers from going to money lenders who will charge very high interest rates. Similarly, when my student Harsha Atluri told me last year that in his branch SBI Guntakal, a huge crowd of farmers come everyday to the branch for crop loan, I told him that he is working for the food security of the country. Its a fact. Each and every act , a bank employee does helps the nation in many ways. But unfortunately, these things are not being told at all in bank training centres or by HRD managers.. My intention is not to blame anyone but atleast hereafter the importance of the role played by bank employees towards the development of the nation should be stressed very often by HRD managers and by training centre faculties. I,on my part. motivate my students to the maximum possible extent, by telling them all these.

SOME OF THE READERS HAVE POINTED OUT THAT WWW.ICDKOLLAM.ORG IS ALSO PUBLISHING THE NAMES OF THE STUDENTS AND THE BANK NAME (BUT NOT THE ROLL NUMBER). WHILE CLERICAL SUCCESS STORIES ARE NOT COMPARABLE AS VACANCIES IN DIFFERENT STATES ARE DIFFERENT AND CLERICAL RECRUITMENT IS STATE WISE RECRUITMENT (VACANCIES IN SBT IN KERALA WILL BE SEVERAL TIMES HIGHER THAN IN TAMILNADU ETC..), P.O.SELECTIONS CAN BE CERTAINLY COMPARED. BUT IOB, WHICH WAS IN CHARGE OF IBPS PO EXAM CONDUCTED IN SEP 2011, CREATED MASSIVE PROBLEMS FOR CHENNAI CANDIDATES. IN MANY CENTRES, THE EXAM STARTED ONLY AT 10 AM (INSTEAD OF AT 9.30 AM) AND THE QUESTION PAPERS WERE TAKEN BACK AT 12 NOON (CHENNAI CANDIDATES LOST 30 MINUTES). AS A RESULT OF THIS, SELECTIONS FROM CHENNAI IN P.O.RECRUITMENTS OF UNION BANK OF INDIA ETC.ON THE BASIS OF IBPS MARKS WILL BE LESS THAN THAT IN OTHER CENTRES. I PERSONALLY WENT TO SOME OF THE CENTRES, VIDEO RECORDED MY CONVERSATION WITH THE SCHOOL/COLLEGE AUTHORITIES AND THEY ADMITTED THAT STUDENTS WERE INDEED AFFECTDE. (I STILL HAVE THAT WITH ME). I BROUGHT THIS TO THE NOTICE OF IBPS,IBA AND RBI. IBPS CONDUCTED AN ENQUIRY ONLY WITH IOB (NOT WITH THE AFFECTED STUDENTS) AND SENT ME A REPLY. I WENT TO MADRAS HIGH COURT BUT THE LEADING ADVOCATES TOLD ME THAT ONLY AFFECTED CANDIDATES CAN FILE A CASE AND I CANNOT FILE THE CASE. BUT THE STUDENTS WERE RELUCTANT, AS THE PARENTS OF THOSE STUDENTS WERE AFRAID OF FILING CASES. IF ANYONE WANTS ME TO ATTACH THOSE VIDEO CONVERSATIONS IN MY WEBSITE,I CAN DO THAT. AS A RESULT OF THIS GOOF UP, SELECTIONS FROM CHENNAI CENTRE WILL BE LESS THAN THAT IN OTHER CENTRES TILL THE NEXT IBPS P.O.EXAM MARKS ARE OUT. I TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO CONDEMN THE IRRESPONSIBLE ATTITUDE OF SOME IOB OFFICIALS. EVEN IF THEY FILE CASE AGAINST ME, I DONT HAVE ANY PROBLEM ,AS I HAVE SUFFICIENT PROOF, AS I HAVE VIDEO RECORDED THE SUBMISSIONS OF SCHOOL/COLLEGE AUTHORITIES. IT IS REALLY UNFORTUNATE THAT IN OUR COUNTRY,BECAUSE OF THE IRREPONSIBLE ATTITUDE OF SOME INVIGILATORS, THE FUTURE OF STUDENTS IS AFFECTED AND THERE IS NO EASY LEGAL REMEDY AS EVEN I CANNOT FILE A CASE FOR ENSURING JUSTICE. THEREFORE, THE SELECTIONS FROM OTHER CENTRES IN BANK P.O. EXAMS BASED ON IBPS P.O. MARKS OF 2011 EXAM WILL ALWAYS BE MORE THAN THAT FROM CHENNAI CENTRE (DUE TO GOOF UP BY IOB AUTHORITIES) TILL SUCH TIME THE NEXT IBPS P.O.MARKS ARE OUT. HOW ELSE CAN ONE EXPLAIN THAT EVEN IF ONLY ONE OR TWO STUDENTS GET SELECTED FROM SOUTH INDIA, THEY ARE INVARIABLY OUR STUDENTS AND WE HAVE TWO STUDENTS SELECTED IN SBI (COMPARED TO NONE -AS FROM OTHER WEBSITES), WE HAVE LESSER NUMBER OF STUDENTS GETTING SELECTED COMPARED TO CENTRES IN OTHER SOUTH INDIAN STATES ON THE BASIS OF IBPS P.O.2011 EXAM ONLY.

RBI STAFF OFFICER GRADE B or SBI PROBATIONARY OFFICER - WHICH IS BETTER ?

One of my students, Harsha Atluri , a gold medallist from Amritha University, Coimbatore, got selected in both SBH and SBI . After working for a few months in SBH Mylapore branch as P.O.,he resigned and joined SBI as P.O.,in Guntakal branch as he opted for Hyderabad circle . I told him a couple of months back, to apply for RBI . Though he is capable of clearing RBI exam in one attempt, he was not interested in applying for RBI EXAM. He enjoys working in Guntakal branch and has become very popular there . We can become very popular in any place by working in SBI and not by working in RBI . Customer contact is a very powerful and satisfying experience . We can have unlimited joy in customer contacts and in making them happy with excellent customer service. I have experienced this personally in India and abroad. All these things will not be there in RBI. However, RBI pay scales are higher. Its a five day week job. No problems. Comfortable job. But no foreign postings.IN SBI, at a junior level itself,one can get foreign posting. An SBI Officer can do wonders to a society and a country. When an enterpreneur wants cash, he goes to commercial banks and not to RBI. We can make many industrialists by working in SBI or in any commerical bank. In RBI, the opportunities are limited. Ultimately, it depends on what a person wants.
